I feel privileged to have known Caroline. She was a lovely person and a wonderful colleague. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to work with her for very long, but I know that new colleagues – including myself – very much benefited from her advice and support on joining the University. She was a very warm, welcoming and calm presence within the School of Modern Languages. Her passing is such a loss for us in HiPLA and across the university. Before meeting Caroline in person, I became aware of her huge commitment to our field when she was president of the Society of Latin American Studies. I remember that she was very encouraging throughout the organisation leading up to the 2015 Postgraduates in Latin American Studies conference, which everyone on the committee really appreciated. My thoughts remain with Caroline and with all of her loved ones.
