Neville 30th August 2019

As a Faculty officer, I encountered colleagues in other departments in rather odd circumstances; and, since my role was often to tell people to do things and make changes they didn't want to, or to stop doing things they did want to, relationships could be strained. Caroline was one of the great exceptions, always reasonable and willing to listen, and always civil and respectful of other people's good intentions even in difficult circumstances. It was a great pleasure to work with her, and then to meet and talk as friends; she was one of the people I missed when I left Bristol, and whom I would certainly have wanted to look up if I ever got round to visiting again - and this is a powerful reminder that you *can't* simply take it for granted that people will still be around when you happen to get round to thinking of them.
