I knew Caroline through her work with SLAS (Society for Latin American Studies). She was a wonderful colleague on the committee - she really helped me through a difficult issue that we had to deal with by supporting me, spending time talking things through and offering the very best advice, generously given. Caroline was a rigorous, perceptive, open, supportive academic but more than anything, just a wonderful person to be with. She was so warm and generous, kind and sympathetic - and lots of fun! We shared many a glass of red wine at SLAS conferences, breakfasts, lunches - and even the odd dance-floor! I shall remember her warmth and laughter, and her deep love for Richard, Stephanie and her mum who she so clearly cherished. Latin American Studies - and the world - is a poorer place for her loss.
