I was fortunate enough to meet Caroline in 2014 in her capacity as President of SLAS when I was co-chair of PILAS (Post-graduates in Latin American Studies). I really appreciated the keen interest that she took in me and the other PhD student members of the PILAS committee. It was inspiring to learn from someone who was so sharp and talented intellectually and also kind and encouraging of younger scholars. My thoughts are with her family and friends. Megan Ryburn
