Early on in my time at Bristol, I had an office in 15 Woodland Road, and I often used to bump into Caroline coming in and out of the building. I have such happy memories of our chats on the steps of no 15. Caroline had such a warmth about her, and a wonderful way of creating a special moment, even if you were both rushing off to teach a seminar or leaving the office late after a tough day. It was always such a pleasure to see her, whether in the corridor, at a Faculty meeting or at graduation. She was wise, kind, generous, and great fun in equal measure. I will miss her hugely and my heart goes out to her family and friends who have lost her far too soon.
