I mainly worked with Caroline in her role as School Education Director. She was the perfect person for this role, always passionate about ensuring we did the very best for our students, and always going the extra mile. She was a dedicated, warm and generous colleague, who always made time to talk things through and had the empathy to appreciate different people's points of view. I would have loved the opportunity to work more closely with her, and remember how delighted I was when I discovered that, quite by chance, our externalling stints at Newcastle University overlapped. It says something about how busy academic life is that we had some of our best catch-ups over hotel breakfasts in Newcastle, but for a couple of years those breakfasts were a much-anticipated treat. She was one of those rare spirits who always seemed to manage to make difficult times better through her sheer warmth and humour, and she will be very sadly missed. RIP Caroline - taken from us much too soon.
