Caroline was my friend, my co-conspirator, and my informal mentor. My enduring memory of Caroline will be her getting animated about politics over red wine and dinner at home with her wonderful husband and sister. Either that, or pressing me to *just one beer* as we tried to think through the logistics of running a research network. She met every situation with tact, dedication and dignity, even when others didn't. Even after weeks, it's still hard to think of a few words that express a relationship with someone. Maybe one day I'll manage to write one of the half-dozen joint articles we talked about but never got around to.
