I worked closely with Caroline in the School of Modern Languages, when she was Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning and I was Undergraduate Programme Coordinator for Russian (2016-18). Caroline performed a very demanding role with a seemingly never-ending supply of patience and generosity of spirit. She exuded a warmth and sparkle that would instantly brighten the mood of a room, even on a dark November morning. She worked tirelessly and was immensely devoted to the students and to modern languages, and never lost sight of what was really important, nurturing and maintaining the human relationships that should be at the heart of the humanities, and at the heart of any community.
