Matthew 27th August 2019

Caroline was a fiercely committed scholar who valued integrity, rigour and justice in everything she did. She mentored me when I first arrived in Bristol, opening her office and her home and supporting me and other junior colleagues as we took our first steps in the university. As a colleague she set a very high bar in terms of interaction with students and patience with the frustrations of institutional bureaucracy. It is very hard to imagine the Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies without her. In difficult situations I will always continue to ask what Caroline would have done. She will be very sadly missed but she leaves us with many memories.
