I met Caroline shortly after coming to Bristol in 2010 and worked closely with her between 2012 and 2015. She was the kindest and most thoughtful colleague, always careful to put students' needs first, and to use her amazing diplomatic skills to make sure the pressures of academic life were smoothed out. I had the opportunity to listen to her talk about her research, too, which always seemed fascinating even to someone whose field is so different. I liked Caroline very much indeed. I trusted her implicitly, and looked forward to meeting with her, whether for the purposes of work or just for a cup of coffee. I can't quite believe that she has been taken from her family and colleagues so suddenly and far too soon. We were fortunate to know her and she will always be remembered. Robert
